This is an antique translucent--gray or smoke glass dog mounted on silver plate . These decanters were made for the British market using Bordeaux wine. Claret wine for the British may be relatively rare to see someone ordering however, it is still available and the term "claret" has for many centuries been linked with Bordeaux – particularly for British wine lovers. These decanters or carafes are spectacular and we have varying styles and colors we were fortunate to acquire for our store. Please see our other styles and colors here on our Chairish storefront.
Claret is a British unofficial name used with reference to red Bordeaux wine. The red wines of Bordeaux are blends, mostly based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The term “claret” is sometimes used—unofficially of course—to refer to Bordeaux-style red wines produced elsewhere such as the United States.
Claret is an old-fashioned term the Brits have been using for Bordeaux wines at least as far back as the 1700s. Today it refers to a Bordeaux - blend: deep velvety reds most commonly made with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot.
Claret wines pair well with beef, veal, pork, roasted chicken, game, mushrooms, pasta, and fish courses. less
