Crafted from pine, it has a warm and mellow tone, with all of the right patina. We love the charming details on this bench, from the scrolled arms and carved detail along the top rail, to the turned bobbin-style back splats.

This bench traces its roots to the region that was formerly the Austrian Empire, when the Habsburg Monarchy ruled much of present day Austria, Romania, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. Historically in the small villages of this region, the family gathering spot during temperate months was on a wide porch or veranda where this bench would have been located.

Lift up the bench seat to reveal ample storage space (it even has an original built-in kickstand to support the lid). We think that this Hungarian bench would be a charming addition to any home, from an entry bench, to a mudroom or a hallway. Place it somewhere where you and your guests can admire its wonderful details.

This bench has been restored and lightly waxed to seal and preserve it's lovely patina. The bench is sturdy and stable and ready to be cherished for the next 150+ years. less
