“comfortable! yes, with capital letters and exclamation marks.“this is how erik wørtz's rondell armchair was described when it was launched in the 1962 ikea catalogue. The shape was described as youthful and form-fitting and seating comfort was the focus. The catalogue text pointed out that thanks to the rounded back, the user could “sit comfortably carelessly in the rondell - in any direction with the knee folds over the armrest”. When the armchair was launched, it could be had in any “standard” fabric, and with any “extra fabric”. The roundabout could also be available in a more luxurious version. The next ikea catalogue from 1963 featured a black-clad and pearl-spiked version of the model, in a warmly snug and inviting folk-home luxury interior, complete with teak furniture, bright ryama rugs and a generous sofa in front of a low coffee table, set with fresh fruits and as yet unopened refreshments. This design is further specified in the 1964 catalogue, as it is stated that the armchair could be obtained in the “extraklass” version, which meant an upholstery in black or brown imitation leather. However, the model was short-lived. It shines with its absence in the 1965 catalogue, and appears to have fallen out of the range.
