This original, one-of-a-kind painting is unique in that it is painted on stretched upholstery fabric, rather than typical canvas. The artist uses the pre-printed pattern of the fabric, which strikes me as a floral that Frida Kahlo herself might have chosen to wear, as the background of the portrait.
Please note that the dimensions shown on the label on the back are a few inches larger than the actual measurements of this stretched piece, suggesting that it had a frame (increasing the size of the piece) at the time that the label was attached to it.
