Pattern is the most popular pattern of antique pressback chairs made, the pattern #1. These have been among the most desirable model antique pressback because other than the side stretchers the chairs are in fact all oak. The pressed pattern is deeply pressed and the chairs have 3 stretchers in the front which adds the the strength and the original cost. This set of chairs was refinished and new cane seats done I'm not sure but I'm thinking in the last 10 years or so. 1 chair has wear to the finish on and can be seen in the last photo. Another chair has had both rear legs restored. this can be seen in photos 8 and 9. In the 4th photo you can see a couple of small breaks in the cane but this should not be a problem for many years. The 5th photo I really cant figure what is up with the cane other than the difference in color. As was common with all chairs of this type years ago when the original cane seats failed there were fiberboard replacements nailed over them If you look closely at the 10th photo you can see the tiny nail holes around the outer edge of the cane seat, all of the chairs have this. Chairs are 42 1/2" tall and are 19 1/2" wide at the widest point and 20" deep. The seat height is 18". A desirable hard to find set of chairs. less
