This period Chinese Kangxi (1662-1722) large jar with mirror-black glaze and worn gilt decoration features a blue underglaze Kangxi reign mark on the bottom. The rim of the jar is upright, finished and uncut. The foot is flat and shows undulating glaze drips. The exposed white porcelain is signature Kangxi with an orange peel texture and visible iron deposit dark dots in the white field. The decoration consists of 3 temple lions, possibly a mother and cubs, amid trailing ribbons and cloud shapes. The top and bottom portions of the jar are decorated with gilt borders. The gilt metal top decorated with prunus blossoms is an after market addition, and was probably added in the 19th century.
This Kangxi jar is in good original condition with minor losses to the bottom rim and significant wear to the gilt decoration. See photos for detail.
