61229 Antique Persian Shiraz Rug, 06'05 x 08'11.
This hand-knotted wool antique Persian Shiraz rug is a mesmerizing tableau of artistry and symbolism, woven with a rich narrative that reflects the cultural heritage of the region. The composition features an allover pattern that captivates with its intricate hooked lozenge lattice, where each diamond-shaped motif tells a story of ancient traditions and mystical beliefs. Within this diamond trellis, you will find an array of symbolic elements, including dragon motifs that symbolize power and protection, and cross motifs that speak to the interconnectedness of life and spirituality. The design is further enriched with rosettes, representing beauty and life, and eight-point stars, a symbol of happiness and harmony.
The central field is a feast for the eyes, as it reveals a harmonious blend of colors and shapes, each contributing to the overall visual impact of the Persian tribal rug. Interspersed among the more recognizable motifs are the yin-yang symbols, embodying love and unison, and the tree of life motifs, which speak to growth, resilience, and the eternal cycle of life. These elements, along with the ambiguous tribal symbols that hint at the mysterious and the unknown, create a layered narrative that invites the viewer to delve deeper into the rug’s meaning and origins.
Framing this intricate field is a geometric border that provides a sense of order and containment to the complex interior. This border is flanked by a double inner guard border, composed of a crenelated fence that symbolizes protection and security, and a geometric rosette guard border that mirrors the central rosettes, reinforcing the theme of natural beauty. These elements work together to create a harmonious frame that draws the eye inward, allowing the central field to take center stage while also offering its own subtle beauty.
Adding the finishing touch to this masterful creation is the outer running dog, or Vitruvian scroll, guard border. This continuous, flowing design element represents the infinite nature of life’s journey, connecting the past, present, and future in a seamless loop. This antique Persian Shiraz rug is not just a decorative piece; it is a work of art that embodies the rich cultural heritage of the Shiraz region. Each motif, each symbol, is a testament to the skill and creativity of the artisans who crafted it, making it a cherished heirloom that will continue to inspire and enchant for generations to come.
