An abstract lithograph by the American artist Georges Schreiber (1904-1977). Titled Aerialist, this black and white work depicts a acrobat hanging upside down amidst trapeze bars and other acrobatic equipment. Signed to the lower right, the print is displayed in a white mat and a black wooden frame.
Born in Brussels to parents of German descent, Schreiber studied at the Art Crafts School in Elberfeld, Germany as well as the Academy of Fine Arts in both Düsseldorf and Berlin, Germany during the 1920s. In 1928, he immigrated to the United States settling in New York where he lived the rest of his life. Schreiber worked as an artist for the Works Project Administration and traveled throughout the country capturing American life during the late 1930s. In addition to being an artist, he also worked as an illustrator and was a teacher at the New School for Social Research. Schreiber's work has been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Carnegie Institute, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Whitney Museum, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art. less
