These wedding Kimonos were used for traditional … more This is a hand woven vintage Japanese Wedding Kimono purchased in Tokyo . These wedding Kimonos were used for traditional wedding ceremonies for hundreds, if not thousands of years, and are still used in modern traditional weddings. According to a book on kimonos by Norio Yamanaka, a "distinctive aspect of Japanese culture ... was seen during the Heian period (794-1185) when ladies of the court donned twelve layers of kimono for ceremonial occasion". One of the garments was the "modern" wedding Kimono.

This wedding kimono portrays embroidered cranes. The crane, or Tsuru, is a national treasure and is considered the bird of happiness. In Japanese folklore, the crane is a strong majestic bird that mates for life and is said to live for a thousand years. It symbolizes honor, good fortune, loyalty, and longevity.

This wedding kimono can be displayed as seen in the photos. One of the picture shows a wedding kimono in a wedding ceremony.
