Alden was born August 28, 1793. Died August 5, 1850. (Details written on picture backing.)
Oval framed, hand-colored photograph. Estimated to have been taken around 1840 or so.
Framed in original gilded frame. Elaborate wood and gesso frame. Nicely decorated to offset the simplicity of the portrait.
The picture is matted with a thick textured gold mat. No cracks in gesso, no loss to frame. Signs of color loss to front. Gold mat has cracked down the middle and a side corner has chipped. I’ve left it wrapped to prevent further disruption of fragile materials.
Measurements: Sight 5 1/2" x 4 1/2", overall 9 1/2" x 8 1/2".
Provenance: the Gliedman Estate N.Y.C..
