Engraved on the silver … more This fine 19th century ram's horn jewel and silver mounted mull tells us about its owner. Engraved on the silver crest is the clan motto " My hope is constant in thee" with the sword crest for the Glencoe branch of Clan Donald as well as the name of its owner, D. McDonald, engraved on the top . The history of the clan was colorful as they were constantly involved in trouble with the law for raiding, pillaging and cattle rustling. They participated in the Jacobite uprising of 1689 resulting in being targeted in the 1692 Massacre of Glencoe. In the 19th century the clan gradually declined in power and influence and the last clan chief died in 1889 without producing an heir. Silver is unmarked. Top fits securely.

Condition: excellent for its age. A tiny surface crack above the crest and a slight dent to the horn in the curled section and above the oval silver tip. a few minor scuffs to horn less
