In 1896, eight years before the hot dog was invented in St. Louis, a man called Siegmund Paul Meyer opened a porcelain painting workshop at the foot of Bayreuth Hill in Bavaria, which he quickly expanded into a major porcelain factory.At first, he focused on crafting fireproof cookware which he named after Richard Wagner’s classic piece “Walküre”, the Ride of the Valkyries.
