This Henri Matisse very rare vintage 1996 Modernist lithograph print custom framed museum poster " Icarus " 1947, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The Modernist poster print is published by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. printed in 1996 in The United States in an unnumbered limited edition. It features an artwork image originally created by Matisse in 1947 titled " Icarus, Pochoir from The Jazz Portfolio " copyright 1996 Succession Henri Matisse / Artists Rights Society ( ARS ), copyright 1996 The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Henri Matisse ( 1869 - 1954 ) the French born artist is known for both his sense of color and fluid aesthetic. Matisse is commonly regarded, along with Picasso as one of the most important artists who helped to define and influence radical Contemporary Art of The Twentieth Century. His mastery of the expressive language of color and drawing won him recognition as a leading figure in world Modern Art. Artworks by Matisse are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
The artwork image of " Icarus " comes from The Jazz Portfolio by Matisse, an artist's book originally created in 1947. Commonly regarded as one of the most ambitious illustrated books of The Twentieth Century. It is an exquisite groundbreaking vibrant poetic book. The magnificent pure color celebrates the radiance and emotional intensity of the artist's oeuvre.
Using a pair of scissors, Matisse cut forms out of colored sheets of paper which he kept arranging and combining until he had achieved a harmonious juxtaposition of pure colors. As he wrote in the text for " Jazz ", he drew with scissors, cutting into the color as a sculptor cuts into stone. It was a historic moment in Modern Art : Matisse had discovered a brilliant and successful new method as a painter. His fascination with color and Joi De Vivre are inextricably bound up in the artworks of The Jazz Portfolio.
The rare out of print framed lithograph print Modernist museum poster measures 22 1/2" W X 35 1/4" H X 1 3/8" D.
It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern slim profile detail museum box style matte eggshell finish black metal frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse bak side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent " like new " condition. The poster print is in excellent " like new " clean vintage condition consistent with age, very light signs of handling, and very light minor wear. It is brand newly custom framed and has never been displayed. Please see photos for condition reference. It is now being offered here for an excellent price.
