Larter & Sons signet ring is hand carved with a heraldic family crest. The crest has a shield with three bell-like shapes sprouting flowers. Above the shield is a knight’s helmet topped with a feather and surrounded by scrolling foliate. The classic design of the crest suggests royalty and valor.

Larter & Sons was founded in 1865 and was renowned for their exquisite craftsmanship of men’s accessories. They expanded to include women’s jewelry in the early 20th century, using intricate techniques such as guilloche and enamelwork, and incorporating motifs inspired by nature. They collaborated with Tiffany & Co. to make jewelry such as cufflinks and signet rings. Tiffany & Co. would often consign well-known brands of the highest quality, including Larter & Sons.

The ring has a luxurious weight of 20.4 grams. The ring face measures 3/4” x 5/8”. There is a slight patina, perfect for a vintage Tiffany piece, and the engraving is worn but without being scuffed—giving this ring a wonderful antique feel. The ring is marked Tiffany & Co., 18K, and has the Larter & Sons maker’s mark. We estimate this ring to be circa 1950’s, however, based on its classic design, the ring could date to even earlier.
