This is a wonderful hand-painted toleware piece. It is a warm black color with gold-colored garlands, olive green, blue, and light gray leaves, as well as rose, light blue, and off-white flowers. It has been used as a wastebasket but would also be useful as a vase (it would need a waterproof insert like a glass jar) or a small umbrella stand.
Deirdre’s Bio:
This comes from the archives of Deirdre Coughlin, founder of Phoebe’s Closet. She specializes in antique textiles and sold them to many New York City Designers including Ralph Lauren (that’s how I know her,) Charlotte Moss, Martha Stewart, and Schumacher, among many others.
