Offered is an expanded and enlarged version of the original Spanish text first published in Peru as "Arte Textil del Perú" in 1989 by L.L. Editores, a so-called coffee-table book depicting hundreds of full-color Peruvian textiles translated and published in English in 1991.
"Beginning at the end of the third millennium B.C., and continuing for nearly four thousand year, Peruvian weavers developed an amazing variety of spinning, dyeing, and weaving techniques, and utilized them to create fabrics of astounding beauty. This book illustrates, in full color, an extraordinary selection of the highest quality Peruvian textiles, carefully chosen from museums and private collections throughout the world. By bringing together such a group of textiles and combining them with articles written by major figures in the field, this volume serves as an important resource for both scholars and laymen. Includes over 300 full-page color plates as well many b/w photographs and drawings; an extensive bibliography; and a glossary of Spanish, Quechua, and foreign words, such as Loquacious Textiles, by Mario Vargas Llosa ; Textile in Ancient Perú, by Luis Guillermo Lumbreras ; The Excellence of Pre-Columbian Textile Art, by Fernando de Szyszlo ; Textile Art of Perú, by James W. Reid ; Transition Textiles (1532-1650 A.D.), by Raúl Apesteguía."
