Antique Botanical prints are a lovely way to add older antiques to your home at affordable prices. This is almost 400 years old!
This 17th Century Botanical print is by Daniel Rabel, 1578 - 1637. Daniel Rabel was a Renaissance French painter, engraver, miniaturist, botanist and natural history illustrator. He was the son of Jean Rabel who was official artist at the court of Henri III. Rabel was first employed as a portrait painter by Marie de Medicis, the second wife of Henry IV of France.
He published "Theatrum Florae" in 1622, the third edition released in 1633.

Single stem yellow blossom with butterfly. No marks. lower right: 33.
According to scholar Wilfrid Blunt, an album of Rabel's drawings are "one of the miracles of early flower painting."
