This early design attributed to Ilana Goor showcases a beautifully aged frame constructed from wrought iron, featuring the original leather sling design of the back and seat. Both the wrought iron and the original leather exhibit a rich patina, reflecting their decades-long history and adding to their vintage charm. Crafted in the 1960s, this piece embodies the timeless appeal of mid-century modern design.
Ilana Goor, born in Israel in 1936, is a celebrated artist and designer who studied at the Bezalel School of Art in Jerusalem, an institution co-founded by her grandfather. Goor's artistic journey began in the late 1960s when she started sculpting while living in Los Angeles. Her talent quickly gained recognition, leading to her first solo exhibition at the Los Angeles State Museum in 1972.
In the 1980s, Goor and her family relocated to New York City, where she expanded her creative repertoire to include jewelry and belt buckle designs, which were sold in prestigious department stores across the United States. By 1994, she introduced a series of assemblages crafted from antiquated farming tools, such as old plows and shredders, further cementing her reputation as a versatile and innovative artist.
