A pair of antique Fenghuang rose verte porcelain sculptures made in China in c. late Qing to Republic era. They are decorated all around with beautiful vibrant colors as well as floral details; and each marked on the base.
Fenghuang is a bird in Chinese mythology that symbolizes the union of a male and female as well as the balance between Yin & Yang; Ying symbolizing the moon and Yang the sun. it also represents the six celestial bodies: its head represents the sky, the eyes the sun, the back the moon, its wings the wind, its feet the earth and its tail the planets.
This bird is also a sign of harmony, prosperity and virtue. It would also represent rebirth, well it was known for repeatedly dying in a burst of flames and then being reborn from the ashes.
