An early 20th century, Chinese, double sided ceremonial drum. Tacked cowhide with a hand painted rooster on one … more ITEM DESCRIPTION:
An early 20th century, Chinese, double sided ceremonial drum. Tacked cowhide with a hand painted rooster on one side and a goat on the other. Tight on both sides with a great sound. The sides are made of wood slats with traces of gilding. The drumsticks are newer bamboo. Base is marked “Make in China”. In excellent condition with period wear and patina, consistent with age and use. Some of the wood slats have some early separation and old paint touchups. There is no serious damage or repairs.
