Description: Japanese antique trunk with carrying string on one side. Original condition and material, both interior and exterior. Used to store … more Japanese antique trunk with carrying string on one side. Original condition and material, both interior and exterior. Used to store items and then could be moved by single person with straps on one side. Has clap in front to close and metal corner pieces and in front side for extra support (shown in pictures). Probably built in the Meiji era but cannot confirm since no other similar type of trunk found. Purchased in Japan during the 1980s.

The material on the top and sides seem to be thin pieces of woven material together, possibly bamboo painted black, and is reasonably well preserved. This is a unique piece that can be displayed and used for storage. less
