Surplus paints and materials are assembled on repurposed salvaged wood panels to create this resourceful, eye-catching diptych artwork. Consisting of two equal sized panels each measuring 20" w x 34" h, this artwork is made entirely of repurposed and leftover materials and is embellished with reclaimed upholstery nails. The paired panels ship unframed and ready to hang with french cleats, and once installed, will project about an inch off the wall. The artwork is titled and signed on back and includes a certificate of authenticity.
The production of art unfortunately includes the potential for a fair amount of waste. Inspired by the wine industry where second labels enable greater consumption of harvested grapes, I produce an entire line of artworks I call “Seconds” which I create with by-products from my primary studio practice. Borne of a desire to minimize waste ending up in landfills or water supplies, things like abandoned paintings, leftover paint, fabric remnants, used dropcloths, each get productively repurposed into “second-level” paintings that are visually distinct from my primary originals, allowing me a prized opportunity to experiment with concepts that are not part of my primary practice.
About the artist...
Stacey Warnix is an American lyrical abstraction painter who uses gestural methods to create large-scale paintings, layering mixed media pigments and collage over raw textiles. Her paintings explore the experiential affect of nuanced color and scale, using disparate materials and layered textures to subtly shift the perception, light reflectivity, and luminosity of her landscape-inspired color. less
