It has never seen a moth ball, and that is evident when the lid is opened and the fresh cedar aroma is emitted. This is amazing as the chest is most likely nearly 90 years old. The exact age is not known, but the last patent date listed on the underside of the lid is dated 1936. This piece was gone over in detail in a search for any damage or excessive wear, and it was discovered that there are very few areas to point out. Top to bottom: The "Windsor" clock does not function as it stands now. It had been operating properly off and on for some time, so it was slightly taken apart to see what the issue may be. It was found that the power cord wires were very loose. If they were held in place, the clock ran. The cord was removed as it will need to be soldered back in place, and we do not have the capability to do it here. Otherwise, the clock is in good overall condition. The paper face is wrinkled on one side. The rest of the face, hands, face, and case are all in good shape with no damage or corrosion to be found. The power cord functions properly, but could be replaced as the outer plastic is cracking from age. The decorative wooden piece that holds the clock, along with the jewelry compartments and covers look excellent with a nice finish. The interior of the boxes have a removable stiff felt piece that lays over another piece that is attached to the bottoms. This is also fine. The entire top surface looks very good. The chest has two edge spots where the laminate has broken off, and one of them is on the right side of the top and down the side a half inch. Otherwise, there are only a couple small, light blemishes and very fine scratches to be found, The rest of this entire surface is very good. The "waterfall" area along the front looks fine, with a nice finish and few blemishes to be found. The underside of the lid is damage and wear free and still retains the original paper pieces. The latch is very good cosmetically, and it functions as it should. There is a "Lane" key that fits into the lock, but without putting too much pressure on it, it fails to turn the locking mechanism. The horizontal edging that runs along the front and on the sides is good save for two old repairs on the left and right sides of the trunk, near the back. One was re-repaired to make it blend in better, and one was left alone. These are relatively small and the rest, including the entire piece that runs along the front, is in fine shape. The interior of the piece is extremely clean and smells of cedar. There are some light scratches from use, otherwise all looks fine. The entire front face and sides look very nice. There are a couple light blemishes on the front, the most noticeable residing to the right of center, and the rest is excellent. The other spot where the laminate is missing is on the right side of the bottom edge. This has been blended in well and is not readily noticeable. The rest, like the majority of the outside of the trunk is in very nice condition. The back is good, save for some loosening of the outer lamination, and the bottom is also in good condition, with no damage or wear to be found. less
