Catalan, Spanish painter Jordi Prat Pons is best known for his uniquely modern approach to the traditional still life. The works are characterized by bold use of color and manipulation of surface and texture through vivid, heavy brush strokes. His work is a synthesis between 17th C. Spanish painting, Abstract Expressionism, & Pop Art. Jordi Prat incorporates collage, resulting in distinctly abstract qualities. Despite the modern first impression given by his work, the roots of his approach extend back to the Golden Age of Spanish art in the 17th Century. The Spanish School of still-life painting played an important role in elevating the most insignificant objects to a new level of dignity and aesthetic dimension. The same metaphysical direction can be seen in his remarkably vivid 'bottle portraits'. He has worked with recycling objects, he started with bottle labels and now he uses books forming them into a sculpture paintings of famous artists and writers. He is a well known Catalonian artist in the tradition of Catalan culture of Antoni Gaudi, Joan Miro, Salvador Dali, Antoni Tapies and Pablo Picasso. He works in assemblage with sheets, plastics and the previously mentioned books.
Jordi Prat Pons boasts more than 20 solo shows and has participated in nine collective exhibitions.
