It does not in any way compromise the overall structure of piece. The piece is patinaed throughout, as is appropriate for its age. It has settled with age and could use some tightening by an antique furniture professional or hobbyist. One of the drawers opens easily, the other is a bit tight and could use some adjustment. It is solid, extremely heavy and meticulously constructed. Overall, it is in fine antique condition. Additional detailed photos are available upon request. less

Acquired from a dealer in Santa Barbara with an expertise in the Aesthetic Movement, it is likely to have been built by hand in India under the guidance of Lockwood De Forest, then transported by ship to a lucky buyer in Santa Barbara California during the 19th Century.
Lockwood DeForest was an major influencer who introduced the East Indian craft revival to the United States through his work produced at the Ahmedabad Wood Carving Company. The proximity of this piece to his permanent residence in Santa Barbara in 1915 until his death in 1932 presents the strong possibility of his association. The sale of this piece provides a unique opportunity for the buyer, as most of his other furniture pieces are currently in museums, including the Met Fifth Avenue.
The piece is stunning. There are detailed floral carvings and insets with the faces of Indian royalty.
It features four. doors that open to a storage cabinet with a shelf, and two spacious drawers. There is a scalloped top with ample storage space above. It would make a perfect bureau for linens, a stylish and funky dresser, and would add pizzazz to any eclectic decor.
This is not only an opportunity to own an exotic and truly unique showpiece, but also to participate in an important part of the history of the decorative arts.
72" tall, by 36" wide, by 20" deep.
Structurally, it is in fine antique condition. Flaws are described in detail in CONDITION NOTES less
