This round extension rosewood dining table was designed in 1958 by Ico and Louisa Parisi for MIM (Mobili Italiani Moderni). Known as model Olbia, this table is a remarkable piece of mid-century modern furniture. Ico Parisi, a renowned Italian architect and designer, often collaborated with his wife Louisa, blending innovative design with impeccable craftsmanship. The Olbia model reflects their signature style, characterized by sleek lines, elegant forms, and a harmonious use of materials.
The craftsmanship of the Olbia table is exemplary. The rosewood used in its construction is prized for its rich color and durability. The meticulously crafted surface, highlighted by the precisely laid, starburst-patterned rosewood veneer, showcases the natural beauty of the wood. The geometrically designed, robust legs, joined by wooden bent structures, create a visually striking and structurally sound base. This combination of warm rosewood and the interestingly shaped base, along with the addition of cool metal feet, adds a touch of modernity to the table’s mid-century roots.
One of the table’s unique aspects is the innovative and practical extension mechanism that exemplifies the Parisis’ commitment to creating adaptable and enduring designs. The system is cleverly integrated into the design. The table top consists of two halves that slide apart, revealing a hidden two-part leaf stored within the structure. The one part of the additional leaf can be lifted and by a simple pull, the second part of the leaf automatically extends, effectively transforming the table from a compact round form to an elongated oval shape. This attention to both form and function, along with the use of high-quality materials, makes the Olbia table a true design icon.
Our team has checked the table. Despite the passage of time, it remains in great original condition, and the authenticity of its origin is confirmed by the manufacturer's stamp. The table top has a new lacquer, which will add another several decades of usage. This is a timeless piece that remains relevant and stylish even decades after its creation. Still fully functional.
