Immerse yourself in the elegance of this late 20th-century handmade table top, crafted from the finest Italian marble. This exceptional piece features a stunning mosaic inlay, meticulously created from various types of marble and stones, forming an intricate design that captivates the eye.
The table top showcases an exquisite pattern of branches and flowers, with a beautifully detailed bird at its center, surrounded by delicate branches. This remarkable piece is inspired by an item exhibited at Sotheby's "Inspired by Chatsworth" exhibition in New York, from June 28 to September 13, 2019.
Artistic Heritage:
Our table top draws inspiration from an Italian scagliola piece dating to the second half of the 18th century, likely of Tuscan origin. Scagliola, a technique revived in the late 16th century, involves using plaster and crushed selenite with colored pigments to create a marble-like finish. This method, referred to as pietra di luna (moonstone) in Italy, was a more affordable alternative to inlaid marble and hardstones, known as pietre dure.
