It is Rendered … more A really is an Exceptionally Nice Looking Antique American Primitive Stoneware Storage Crock. Circa Late 19th Century. It is Rendered in a Scarce & Unusual 1 1/2 Gallon Size. It has a Beautifully & Artistically Deep Cobalt Blue Hand Decorated Stylized Flower Design on the Front. In Addition it is Embossed with the Very Desirable and Well Documented Makers Name of J. & E NORTON in BENNINGTON VERMONT. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. It is in Original as it has Survived Over the Years Condition and Displays Beautifully. It has a Very Old Age and Use Related Crack on the Back Side and Bottom but NOTE That it has Been Professionally Strengthened - Epoxy Filled and Stabilized so it is Now Strong and Sound. There is also a Small Under the Glaze Imperfection at the Base - Lower Tail of the Blue Decoration that Would Have Absolutely Occurred in the Kiln Firing Process. These Types of Stoneware Pieces were Fired in Large Kilns in Batches with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time and These Types of Imperfections are Quite Common in American Stoneware Made During this Period.
