Description: This amethyst bottle has a good size and is a very pretty stone. Amethyst quartz is hard to carve and … more This amethyst bottle has a good size and is a very pretty stone. Amethyst quartz is hard to carve and yet the carver managed to do a lot of birds and flowers all over the bottle. Most of these bottles were done in the 1950'sand early 1960's. There was a short period when Liu Shaoqi was in power in China and he encouraged the making of high quality art and crafts. Unfortunately the Cultural Revolution that took place from the late 1960's to 1970's put an end to the making of snuff bottles. In the post 1970's few amethyst bottles like this one were made.

This bottle came without a top, and this new stopper was handmade by Barbara Handlon. She fashioned a piece of amethyst and mount it to a silver collar. less
