The work … more A vibrant and contemplative abstract oil painting housed in a chunky and worn antique gilt wood picture frame. The work by Virginia artist, Roderick Coles, was performed upon a ragged and worn piece of bead board of pine, using plaster coats and dye as a rustic gesso, and mainly oil paints. The modern and intense painting is inherently minimal, yet there is a back story and telling narrative inside the work. Below the artist describes.....

"One Winter, we went to Stiltsville, just outside of Key Biscayne, FL. I was captivated and slightly fearful, yet wanted to remain indefinitely, the raw and broken down beauty tugged at me like a strong magnet. The vibe has never left my memory and often i think not only of the structures, out there isolated in the water, but the power and magnetism of place. A constant and enduring force that nature places upon humans. It's where the most powerful memories are born for me. The attraction and pull of specific places upon the individual. Fascinating. So i wanted to express it in a work of art. Enjoy. " less
