This ulbong from the Ifugao region of the Philippines is a rare find. Handled and lidded, the basket is very strong. Most Ulbong do not survive the wear and tear of being a utilitarian object.
A true piece of art, it features a coiled woven pattern. An ulbong is a woven covered container used for storing rice that has been husked. This ulbong is a classic Filipino size and style of this type of container.
It is a dark, almost black color.
Beautiful and interesting, Ifugao ulbongs are a highly desired part of any Filipino basket collection, and an interesting piece to display on a mantel.
