This is an absolutely stunning piece of furniture with warm color and character that can only be given by time. The commode features two large drawers overlay or roughly the same size and both with large, hand-made dovetail joints. The Drawer fronts show ogee edges and are decorated masterfully with book-matched walnut burl veneer, framed by cross-banded walnut veneer. The juxtaposition of the different grains of the veneer provide a lot of depth to the piece as well as balanced and elegant decoration. The top of the commode is made of two boards with ogee edges and decorated with book-matched burl veneer framed with cross-banded veneer. The flat paneled sides, like the rest of the commode are also decorated with the same pattern of veneer. The commode still sits on its original fluted legs, a couple of which have undergone some repairs throughout the years, but are still perfectly functional and stable. The hardware has been replaced.
Overall this is a gorgeous commode that can be used in a bedroom but also in a more formal setting such as a dining room, living room or entryway. It's low height make it perfect for many different spots, and its beautiful decoration make it a piece that will not pass unnoticed, regardless of where you place it. less
