This painting was done for … more Large painting entitled "Late Afternoon" by important African American / Philadelphia artist Martin Jackson (1920-1986). This painting was done for the Philadelphia Art Alliance 50th Anniversary regionals 1965 - 1966. The depth and detail of this painting is absolutely outstanding. Hopefully you can see from the pictures how amazing the textures are on this painting. Mr Martin had a very impressive career as an artist, as illustrated by his bio on the back of this painting. (please see pics) Mr Martin graduated from Temple University with a Masters degree in Fine Arts, studied with Maxime Gottlieb, and Franklin Watkins. His work is included in the permanent collections of many museums, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, Brooklyn Museum, Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia Museum of Art, and many others. "Work included in 42 Museums throughout the United States". It's a very extensive list, and this was back in 1966. I'm sure his works are in many more museums now. Included with his bio, is a tag from the show that this painting was shown at that reads "Phila Art Alliance 50th Anniv. Regionals. Season 1965-66. "Late Afternoon" OIL & ACRYLIC POLYMER. It also states the original price as $1600. Beautifully framed in what appears to be chestnut, with a linen border / mat. Oil & acrylic polymer on board. Signed lower left. less
