George III Sterling silver wine decanter label or bottle ticket as it is referred to in England. Hand wrought by silversmith Margaret Binley maker of decanter labels, London, 1765-1790.
Mountain was a sweet dessert wine from the area of Malaga, Spain and served as a predecessor to Sherry. The face of the label is boldly stamped with “MOUNTAIN”. The makers hallmarks are stamped on the reverse along with a lion rampant, the hallmark for the sterling silver standard of Great Britain. The decanter label has a slight convex shape with a deep incised border along with a feather edge.
