The dresser features four inset drawers … more Chest of drawers hand-made in Italy using walnut and decorated with walnut cross-banded veneer. The dresser features four inset drawers of all about the same size and all showing beautiful, large, hand-made dovetail joints. The front of the drawers are decorated with symmetrical crossbanding. The same pattern is also found on the sides and the top, which also features ogee edges. The chest of drawers is overall very straight in lines, however, some movement is given by the large hand-carved molded baseboard that wraps it on three sides. The commode still sits on its original bracket feet.
This is a beautifully-made and stunning chest of drawers (Italian Canterano) from the northern Lazio region of Italy. The drawers all work well and are very spacious, and the overall look is simple, yet elegant; rustic, yet sophisticated, making a perfect piece for many different settings and homes. The light color given by the bleaching process brings out the natural grain of the walnut, adding depth and decoration while also making it look much lighter and smaller than it really is. less
