That is exactly how we saw this W.H. Gunlocke Chair. The W.H.Gunlocke Chair Company was established in 1902. Their reputation for quality and fine craftsmanship was due in part to their use of steam bending in their furniture designs. United States Presidents starting with Wilson and through to Carter all sat in a W.H. Gunlocke chair in the Oval Office. By the end of the 1960’s they were one of the largest institutional wood seating companies in the world. We are told that this is the #21-C chair built out of walnut and features a steam bent back panel. The original upholstery was beyond repair so we had it reupholstered in a heavy use tweed fabric to keep the overall look and feel of the chair in line with it’s mid-century industrial appeal. The frame is solid, sturdy and has some heft to it which is why these chairs are still in use today. There is normal and typical wear and tear especially around the legs, and some finish wear on the arms. The patina of decades of use suits this chair just perfectly. The overall measurements are 24" wide by 24” deep and 29” high. The inside seat measures 20” wide by 20” deep. The arm height is 26”, the inside back is 15” high, and the seat height is 18”. We have tried to represent the wear accurately, but additional photos are available on request. less

The frame is solid, sturdy and hefty. The upholstery is new, professionally reupholstered in a heavy duty tweed fabric consistent with the time period. There are typical wear and tear marks on the frame such as scuffs, some finish wear on the arms - notably at the ends. Overall there is still a good sheen on the original finish. We inspect and clean all our furniture but we do not attempt to refinish or restore any of the wood. We have tried to represent the wear accurately, but additional photos are available on request. less
