In this canvas, Schwindt captures a rain storm passing over the rim of the Grand Canyon and evokes the immensity of the western landscape.

After graduating Fort Lewis College and moving to Santa Fe, NM in 1971, David Schwindt began painting, en plein air, the incredibly diverse geographical areas of the Southwest. In 1999 he was one of 15 artists selected by the Grand Canyon Trust to raft the Colorado River and paint the Grand Canyon. Artworks from the 10-day trip were exhibited at the Forbes Magazine Galleries in New York and San Francisco. Schwindt says of his art, “My painting is a way of getting to know a place. I hope my work might stop you for a moment to linger over the light and colors of places I’ve visited.” less
