The original hotel opened in 1893, combined a few years later with the Astoria hotel next-door and was demolished to make way for the Empire State building. The current Waldorf-Astoria building was built in 1931. A rare piece of New York City hotel history!

In excellent condition for a piece that’s 120+ years old, no large dents or damage. Some surface scratches and small marks/bumps you’d expect from old hotel silver that was used daily. The silver plating is in good but not great condition, there are a lot of small speckled marks of discoloration/wear in the center of the tray; it will polish up a little more than shown in photos, but not much. Marked on the base with Gorham marks and the date mark for 1897, dating this piece to the opening of the merged Waldorf-Astoria hotel!
