This magnificent Art Deco bust, created by the celebrated Franco-Italian sculptor Affortunato Gory (Gori), dates back to circa 1920. The sculpture features the head and décolleté of a young woman in elegantly carved marble, complemented by a bonnet and dress crafted from gilt bronze. The bust is signed "A. Gory" on the side of the right sleeve and is mounted on a dark green stepped stone base, highlighting Gory's adept use of mixed materials.

Artist Biography:
Affortunato Gory (Gori) was an illustrious Franco-Italian artist, born in Florence in 1869. He received his artistic training under the mentorship of Augusto Rivalta at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence. In 1895, Gory moved to France, where he continued his studies with Victorien-Antoine Bastet and showcased his work at the prestigious Salon des Artistes Français multiple times. Gory was renowned for his Art Deco sculptures that often combined materials such as bronze, ivory, and marble, creating pieces of extraordinary beauty and refinement. Despite his acclaim, much about his personal life remains unknown. He passed away in 1925.
