This antique wooden chest, known as a damchiya, was crafted in Gujara, Northern India, circa 1920. with its intricate carvings and rich history, it is a prime example of the traditional dowry gifts that were bestowed upon the groom's family by the bride's parents. Acting as a symbol of prosperity and status, the damchiya played a crucial role in securing a suitable marriage for the daughter.
