Ettore Frattini's technique is detailed, with touched brushstrokes and an excellent sense of realism. The color is treated with the enthusiasm of those who are in contact with the pictorial ways of the seventeenth century, which contrast with large chiaroscuro effects.
In this work, the artist pays homage to the master of French neoclassicism François-André Vincent with masterful skill and dedication. The work portrays a scene starring Flavius Belisarius, a Byzantine general who served under Justinian I (527-565). Legend has it that the general was blinded and made a beggar and then recognized by one of his former soldiers.
