These ladderback arm chairs are part of a broad range of Quaint furniture designs produced circa 1925-1940. Albert Stickley was an active participant in the national furniture market and offered designs the consumer was seeking. As trends developed and changed, Stickley Bros moved with the demands of the customer. Collections associated with Stickley Brothers were called Quaint Tudor, Quaint Jacobean and Quaint Peasant and others to further attract new buyers who tired of the Quaint Mission and Quaint Arts and Crafts designs.
This design was part of the Quaint New England Collection. The frames are made of solid maple.
The Model No. 2973 ½ Arm Chair appears in the 1931 Stickley Bros. catalog (pictured).
These chairs recently underwent a full professional restoration at a cost of well into four figures. Aside from the wood being refinished, they were outfitted with new seat pads of buttersoft Italian leather, plus fitted, padded, removable backrests of the same leather, and thick fabric riser cushions for those who need extra height. Although the term "restomod" usually applies to vintage automobiles, it serves well as a descriptor of these chairs. A vintage look but with modern finish and functionality. Just gorgeous!
