Set of two large statues in Chinese polychrome earthenware, representing Chinese ancestors in a motionless posture in festive attire, wearing Mandarin's dress and hat.
"Mandarin" is a Western term for a high official, a literate and educated person. In China for more than 1300 years (between the years 600 and 1905) the high administration was held by the famous mandarin caste.
The sculptures presented here are a modern version of the Chinese ancestors. We can notice that only the face really changes from one ancestor to another, however, the facial expression always remains benevolent. Represented in frontal view and in luxurious and colorful ceremonial clothes, the dignitaries are supposed to guarantee the prosperity of the family.
Coming from traditional Chinese art that dates back to antiquity and which allows descendants to maintain a link with their ancestors, these two Mandarin statues attract luck and joy.
Each statue is marked with two seals, signatures of the artist.
The strong colors and the richness of the decorations make this set a charismatic work that will sublimate your interior.
