A lovely large 19th-Century oil on canvas by listed French artist Henri Cauchois (1850-1911), Flowers in a Vase. This Impressionist work depicts a profusion of colorful flowers arranged in a red vase in a landscape. Cauchois, a highly sought after artist painted only still life paintings. It is signed lower right and presented in a fine giltwood Montparnasse frame with an attached nameplate.

Eugène Henri Cauchois was a pupil of Cabanel and Duboc. He exhibited at the Paris Salon as of 1874. Cauchois was a member of the Société du Salon des Artistes Français from 1890 onwards and was awarded bronze medals in 1898 and 1900, and a silver medal in 1904. Towards the end of his life, Cauchois directed his efforts towards decorative compositions, producing among other things panels decorated with seasonal flowers for a school in the seventh arrondissement in Paris. His compositional style is characterised by vigorously applied and densely coloured brushstrokes.
