Vintage; 19th. Century French, Louis XV style, carved English walnut bench with flocked mustard yellow mohair textile. This gorgeous bench has raised, carved arms, with curvilinear rolled arm rests, with additional detailed carvings throughout. There are exquisitely-carved maple leaf, or foliage relief design details, with carved festoons on each apposing ends of armrests center, ending in French Neoclassical carved, curved legs. Original horsehair stuffing, with original Belgium linen attached, underlay to base underside of bench, with original nails. indicative to the age, provenance, period and style, whereupon these benches and manner of upholstery, which dates the piece, beyond the particular textile utilized, and the additional silk coverlet, overlay, with stitch-sewn, attached ribbon ties, with silk fringe details, original to the piece. This is a perfect accompaniment to any entree, foyer, landing, hallway, family/and or living room, bedroom, and beyond including a cosy boudoir, or walk in closet, traditional and French, with inclusion into nay mediterranean Italian, Traditional/Transitional surrounding and interior to Victorian and Regency. The plethora of panache, sophistication and tres elegance is notwithstanding, as such the style of this piece oozes with personality in spades, beyond the craftsmanship given to it.
We were told this was one of many pieces purchased in an antique jaunt across Europe for one of the owner's homes.
In great condition for period, extremely well-maintained.
The silk coverlet top, has been a install to preserve the mohair, when not in use, either or, but has traveled to and fro form 4 differing types of residences by the owners of this consigned item, as well as all of the pieces thus far listed from the Camel Leather Ox Chair on up, with more pieces to come. less
