The handles are in good condition with a few minor bends; however these are mostly covered by the face screens. The screens attached to the handles with small brass hooks. Only three of these remain; however, they are a little difficult to hook and unhook. I am sure an experienced seamstress could devise a better way to attached the screens to the handles (several small stitches through the back of the cording to the openings on the handles would hold them well). less

An antique pair of silk face screens with tassels and braided trim. Each face screen has a different floral scene. One depicts an English Rose with delicate blue flowers. The other depicts a cutting of berries. The trim and cording in shades of golds and tans are accented with deep green and black. The back of each screen is covered in a solid deep green silk. The handles are black porcelain and brass with decorative finials. An exceptional decorating detail for your fireplace; the designs have been hand-painted on the cream silk.
Acquired in England; Circa 1890
Measurements: When attached full height is 19 inches long. Each screen measures 7 7/8 inches by 9 inches without the trim which is 2 inches.
