Offered for your consideration, this exquisite “bench made” high chest of drawers by the Attwill Furniture Company of Lynn, Massachusetts … more Offered for your consideration, this exquisite “bench made” high chest of drawers by the Attwill Furniture Company of Lynn, Massachusetts under the direction of Ronald Trapasso. This “highboy” in the style of William and Mary features an upper case with a molded cornice and two over three fitted drawers. The lower case, being fitted with three drawers, is supported by six cup-turned legs and raised on ball feet reenforced by scalloped stretchers. Both cases are fashioned from walnut and mahogany with select walnut veneers. Other high quality hard and soft woods are used for interior secondary elements. Other notable design elements are the herringbone banding on the drawer fronts, cockbeading on lower skirt and drawer openings, and faithfully reproduced brass hardware.

As quoted from 1980’s documentation that came with the chest:

“The Attwill Furniture Company has become very respected in the antique community. J. Sanger Attwill purchased the business in 1930 from Paster Furniture Company. Having several years experience as an employee for Paster Furniture Company, Mr Attwill successfully owned and operated the company until his death 1976. At that time, Ronald Trapasso, a cabinet maker for the company since 1969, purchased the operation.”

Attwill specialized in the limited production of commissioned pieces with the bulk of the work being produced before the Second World War. After the war, the company diversified including other services including period interior design, furniture restoration and antique appraisals. Nevertheless, the company continued to produce bespoke quality reproductions for their clients making their work rare on the market today.
