A vintage 'UndergrounD' painted acrylic glass panel integrated into a functional wooden lightbox.
Surviving examples are extremely rare.
The ‘UndergrounD’ wordmark uses Johnston typeface complete with pecked lines.
This new typeface was commissioned by the Underground Group in 1913 in an attempt to create a unified company identity; one simple font was used across the entire railway network. This piece has an attribution mark,
