The baroque style, synonymous with luxury and grandeur, is ideal for those who want a decor that captures the eye and soul. The Baroque style was born in Italy at the end of the Renaissance, that is, in the sixteenth century. Inevitably, like any artistic movement, the Baroque becomes so important that it influences not only the architecture but also the furniture of the residences and, of course, the design of the furniture. What was the great success of this style due to? Having as a distinctive feature the large size and the luxurious appearance, many sovereigns and nobles asked the ebuniers of the era for furniture that were imposing but, above all, with precious decorations in precious materials, including gold. This is because the more opulence transpired from the stays of the castles and royal houses, the more influential the family that owned that dwelling was considered. Colours were also of particular importance, especially if there was the possibility of making frescos on walls or furniture: the play of shades, in fact, had the power to make the painting even more valuable. The Baroque quickly spread to various regions of Italy, such as Piedmont, Campania and above all Veneto – which developed its own variant of Baroque in which luxury and glitz went hand in hand with elegance – but even the rest of Europe did not remain immune to this beautiful and very particular style of furniture. less
