Antique circa 1936 white porcelain statue / figurine of a moor / Turk carrying a tray of fruit by Hugo Meisel (German sculptor/artist, 1887-1966). Produced by Schwarzburger Werkstatten fur Porcellankunst.
"The Schwarzburger Werkstätten were founded in 1908 by the ceramic artist Max Adolf Pfeiffer (1875-1957) as the art department of the Porzellanfabrik Unterweissbach, which had been founded in 1882 by Hermann Jost. Pfeiffer collaborated with a number of distinguished artists, including Ernst Barlach, Gerhard Marcks, Paul Scheurich and Max Esser. In 1913, Pfeiffer left to become director at the Meissen Porcelain Factory. The Unterweissbach concern continued until its bankruptcy in 1930 when it merged with the Aelteste Volkstedter Porzellanmanufaktur. Progression of factory name changes / reconfigurations: 1882-92: Porzellanfabrik Unterweissbach Hermann Jost; 1892-99: Porzellanfabrik Unterweissbach formerly Mann & Porzelius; 1899-1909: Porzellanfabrik Unterweissbach (formerly Mann & Porzelius) A.G. During this period, the compnay was changed into a Stock corporation and also merged with the Aelteste Volkstedter factory from Volkstedt. and the two names were combined into one long name. In 1908 Pfeiffer integrated his Schwarzburger Werkstätten für Porzellankunst into the corporation as a stand-alone department with its own marks ( such as the running fox). 1909-1936: Aelteste Volkstedter Porzellanmanufaktur, Unterweissbach; 1936-40: Porzellanfabrik Unterweissbach C. Saar; 1940-52: Porzellanfabrik Schaubach-Kunst Wallendorf, Zweigwerk Unterweissbach; 1953-1990: V.E.B. Unterweissbacher Werkstätten für Porzellankunst; 1990 - present: Unterweissbacher Werkstätten für Porzellankunst G.m.b.H." (Source: British Museum / Porcelain Marks & More)
